Education That Opens Doors: GED & Workforce Support in Our Communities
Education remains one of the most powerful tools for breaking cycles of instability, and during the second week of January, VFL Community Outreach CDC doubled down on its commitment to helping residents move forward through learning and workforce development.
This week marked the launch of GED orientation and assessment activities in partnership with Houston City College, creating new educational pathways for adults living in affordable housing. Residents were welcomed into a supportive learning environment designed to meet them where they are and help them take confident steps toward academic and career success.
In addition to GED preparation, residents had access to:
- Job readiness workshops
- Open computer labs for digital literacy
- Ongoing community support services
By combining education with workforce readiness, VFL is helping residents build the skills, confidence, and credentials needed to pursue better employment opportunities and long-term stability.
This initiative reflects VFL’s belief that education is not a luxury it is a gateway to opportunity.
